Bilginin dijitalleşmesiyle birlikte, haritalarla karşılaşma ve haşır neşir olma biçimlerimiz hızla evrim geçiriyor. Stamen Design gibi “yaratıcı kodcular” açısından harita, Google Maps’teki gibi coğrafi bilgiler sunabilir, ama bambaşka verileri gösteren farklı bir sistem, ağ, dizin veya yapı da olabilir. Örnek olarak, Stamen şehirlerde suç işlenen yerleri haritaya yansıttı.

Haritacı Manifestosu ile stüdyo böyle bir yaklaşımı tetiklemek istiyor. Açık çağrı süreciyle seçilen haritalar pek çok farklı bakış açısını bir araya getiriyor. Mekân ve bağlamların alternatif vizyonlarını tasavvur ediyorlar: Hem şu an nerede olduğumuza, hem de nereye yöneldiğimize dair kolektif bir portre. Nihayetinde Haritacı Manifestosu soruyor: “Şu an buradasınız” size ne ifade ediyor?

Taking the form of a collection of physical and digital maps, Stamen’s manifesto navigates the location of the self in terms of place.

The ways in which we interact and encounter maps has been rapidly evolving through the digitization of information. For “creative coders” like Stamen Design, a map could represent geographically related information, such as on Google Maps, but could also be another kind of system, network, index, or structure representing a completely different sort of data. Stamen has mapped crime in cities, for example.

It is this type of thinking that the studio seeks to catalyze in their Mapmaker Manifesto. Selected through the process of an open call, the maps shown here bring together many points of view. They envision alternate visions of places and contexts: a collective portrait of where we are now, as well as point to where we are headed. Ultimately, however, the Mapmaker Manifesto asks: What does “You Are Here” mean to you?
